How to make a fox mask

Find out for yourself what the fox says when you make this crafty mask using our downloadable template, some felt and a few feathers.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Downloadable fox mask template. Click here for the template.
  • Paper half-mask form (available from craft and dollar stores)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pale grey felt
  • Dark grey felt
  • Black felt
  • White glitter felt
  • Feathers
  • Elastic (or cut an elastic band)

Step 1: Download, print and cut out all fox mask templates.

Step 2: Cover your mask form with glue and apply the pale grey felt to cover the entire surface with excess hanging over each side. Use scissors to trim the felt to fit the mask form and cut pointy side-whiskers from the overhang felt. Cut out eyes.

Step 3: Use the forehead template to cut the darker grey felt and apply to mask form with glue, centred 1 cm. above the eyeholes, three quarters of the way down the nose. The fox ears and head will reach higher than the top of the mask.

Step 4: Use the nose template to cut the black felt and glue into place covering the end of the dark grey felt.

Step 5: Use the ear template to cut the white glitter felt into two ears and glue into place.

Step 6: Glue feathers to the sides of your mask between the ears and the whiskers.

Step 7: Use the tip of your scissors to cut holes through the felt on each side corresponding with the side holes on the mask form. Measure your child's head and subtract 2 inches. Cut the elastic to size using this measurement. Thread the elastic through each hole and tie a knot to keep it in place, hiding the knots on the reverse side of the mask.
