I'm hosting a birthday party this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it. I've got the menu set; the beer and wine are ready and waiting; and when I get home I'm going to make an ambitious-but-delicious eight-layer chocolate cake. I can't wait! Of course, it's not really a party without decorations. I'm planning to keep it simple (I've only got so many hands!) but that doesn't mean I haven't been looking for some crafty decoration inspiration. Here are some of the things I've seen and liked recently.

• The simple decorations and cheerful colours of this party are a perfect antidote for the midwinter blues.
• Thanksgiving decorations don't really work at this time of year (though they're lovely), but I definitely hope to see a scene like the one in the last photo of this post sometime tomorrow night.
• I tried to pick a favourite but couldn't: birthday parties featured on You Are My Fave (I know I was just talking about YAMF on Wednesday, but I can't help it, I'm obsessed-in-a-good-way right now!)
• Beautiful cakes, cake stands and cake decorations by Nikole Herriott. Love.
