Hi again, This week I'm pleased to be giving away a copy of the new Threads Sewing Guide. It's a comprehensive guide to home sewing, produced by the editors of Threads magazine. [caption id="attachment_5378" align="aligncenter" width="318" caption="Image, Taunton"] [/caption] This book is a comprehensive guide to sewing and will take you through everything you need to know, from basic equipment to types of fabric to complicated sewing techniques – and everything in between. Helpful chapters on fit will help you alter patterns to fit your unique shape; chapters on embellishment show you how to add special touches such as appliqué, embroidery or beading. I don't know that I would sit down and read this cover to cover, but I do think that the early chapters, especially, would be a good primer for someone setting out on their first sewing project (for example, there's a good explanation of the order of assembly for a typical garment that I thought was super helpful, especially if you're the kind of person who likes to know the "why" behind the "what you do next"). Later chapters would be helpful for people looking to learn (or refresh their memories of) new techniques. A combination of illustrations and photos makes the clear explanations even easier to understand. For your chance to win, leave a comment on this post telling me your Canada Day plans. Barbecue? Fireworks? Pancake breakfast? It all sounds good to me! Leave ONE comment before 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 3; I'll post a winner here on Monday, July 4. Remember, you need to provide your email address when prompted in order to be eligible to win. Good luck!
