Easy-knit lacy tank

Instructions are written for Small size. Any changes for Medium and Large are written in brackets. If there is only one figure it applies to all sizes. Standard abbreviations are used. Recommended for knitters with some experience.

Bust/chest measurement:
Small - 76 to 81.5 cm (30 to 32 ins)
Medium - 86.5 to 91.5 cm (34 to 36 ins)
Large - 96.5 to 101.5 cm (38 to 40 ins)

Finished bust/chest measurement:
Small - 84 cm (32-1/4 ins)
Medium - 89 cm (36-3/4 ins)
Large - 119.5 cm (41 ins)

You need:
8(9,9) balls Paton's Grace (50 g), No. 60901 Tangello
One 3.5 mm circular knitting needle, 90 cm long
One 4 mm circular knitting needle, 90 cm long
Set of four 3.5 mm double pointed knitting needles (OR whichever needles you require to produce the tension given below)
Spare needle
One st holder
Tapestry needle
Six 4 mm buttons

Tension:
24 sts and 32 rows = 10 cm (4 ins) in stocking stitch using larger needles. Work to exact tension with specified yarn to obtain satisfactory results. TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK TENSION.

To make:

BACK
With smaller circular needle, cast on 185(211,236) sts. Do not join. Working back and forth across needle:
Work 5 rows in Garter St (knit every row), inc 17(18,20) sts evenly across last row. 202(229,256) sts now on needle. Change to larger circular needle.

Rows 1 and 3 (wrong side): Purl.
Row 2: K3. *yo. k2. ssk. k2tog. k2. yo. k1. Rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 4: K2. *yo. k2. ssk. k2tog. k2. yo. k1. Rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
These 4 rows form Lace pat.
Cont in Lace pat until work from beg measures 23(24,25) cm/9(9.5,9.75) ins, ending with RS facing for next row.

Divide for armholes:
Next row: Pat 51(57,64) sts (Right Front). Turn. Leave rem sts on a spare needle or st holder.

Right Front:
Keeping continuity throughout, cont in Lace Pat and bind off next 7 sts (armhole edge) and dec 1 st at armhole edge on every foll 4 (10,8) alt rows. 40 (40,49) sts now on needle.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 4.5 ins/11.5 cm, ending with right side facing for next row.

Neck shaping: Bind off next 7(6,8) sts. (neck edge). Pat to end of row. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 15(12,16) rows. 18(22,25) sts now on needle.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 20.5 cm/8 ins, ending with wrong side facing for next row.

Shoulder shaping: Bind off 6(7,8) sts beg next and foll alt row. Work 1 row even. Bind off rem sts.

Divide for Back: Next row: With right side of work facing, join yarn to rem sts on spare needle. Bind off 7 sts, work 93(108,121) sts in Lace Pat (including st on needle after bind off). (Back). Turn. Leave rem sts on spare needle or st holder.

Back:
Bind off 7 sts. Pat to end of row. Keeping cont of pat, dec 1 st at each end of needle on next 5(8,10) rows. 76(85,94) sts now on needle.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 20.5 cm/8 ins, ending with right side facing for next row.

Shoulder shaping: Bind off 6(7,8) sts beg next 4 rows, then 6(8,9) sts beg next 2 rows. Leave rem 40(41,44) sts on st holder.

Left Front:
With right side facing, join yarn to rem sts on spare needle. Cont in Lace Pat and bind off next 7 sts (armhole edge) and dec 1 st at armhole edge on every foll 4(10,8) alt rows. 40(40,49) sts now on needle.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 11.5 cm/4.5 ins, ending with wrong side facing for next row.

Neck shaping: Bind off next 7(6,8) sts. (neck edge). Pat to end of row. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 15(12,16) rows. 18(22,25) sts now on needle.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 20.5 cm/8 ins, ending with right side facing for next row.

Shoulder shaping: Bind off 6(7,8) sts beg next and foll alt row. Work 1 row even. Bind off rem sts.

To finish:
Sew shoulder seams.
Work buttonhole band: With right side facing of work facing and smaller needles, pick up and knit 74(76,78) sts up Right Front edge.
Working back and forth across needle in rows, proceed as follows:
Work 3 rows Garter St.
Row 4 (right side): K2. * Bind off 2 sts. k17(17,18) (including st on needle after bind off). Rep from * 2 more times. Bind off 2 sts. Knit to end of row.
Row 5: Knit, casting on 2 sts over bind off sts.
Work 3 rows Garter St. Bind off knitways on wrong side.

Work Button Band:
Work as for Buttonhole Band, omitting all reference to buttonholes.
Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes.

Work Neckband:
With right side facing and smaller needles, pick up and knit 28 sts up Right Front neck edge, knit across 40(41,44) sts from Back St holder. Pick up and knit 28 sts down Left Front neck edge. 96(97,100) sts now on needle.
Work 1 row garter st and dec 1 st at centre back neck. 95(96,99) sts now on needle.
Next: K2. Bind off 2 sts. Knit to end of needle.
Next row: Knit, casting on 2 sts over bind off sts.
Knit 1 row.
Bind off knitways.

Work Armbands:
With right side facing and set of four needles, pick up and knit 90 sts evenly around armhole edge dividing sts evenly on 3 double pointed needles. Join in round and placing a marker on first st, proceed as follows:
Rnd 1: Purl.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rep last 2 rnds once more. Bind off purlways.
