Hot holiday hair

Give your hair a moisture treatment

Every time I visit my hairstylist, I tell him of my desire to take him home with me so he can perform his magic on my hair every morning. He hasn't taken me up on my offer so far, but as the holiday party season looms near, I am considering a marriage proposal.

Alas, some hair experts have convinced me that hot holiday styles can be achieved in the privacy of my home or in the office washroom before a big event -- no personal hairstylist needed. Sorry, Kim. You're still the hair God.

The root of the problem
In order to realize your hair fantasies, ensure that your locks are in good fighting condition. Lesley Kernan, co-owner of Blyss Salon in Toronto advises her clients (especially during the winter months) to undergo a deep-conditioning treatment at the salon like to revitalize, restore and add moisture to hair. For an at-home treatment, try Kiehl's Lecithin and Coconut Enriched Hair Masque with Panthenol.

One of Kernan's pet peeves is over-washed hair that is stripped of essential oils that naturally moisturize thirsty locks. "A lot of our clients are being retrained to wash their hair every other day," Kernan says. If your hair resembles a Brillo pad after blow-drying, use a leave-in conditioner to control frizz and dryness. Try Aussie Dual Personality Heat Protector and Leave-in Conditioner.

A season of sophistication
Forget the flat and ultra-straight hairdos of seasons past: 'tis the season for voluminous hair. "The looks are definitely with more volume," says Marc Anthony, an award-winning Toronto-based hair stylist who has tended to the locks of such Hollywood heroines as Catherine-Zeta Jones and Kate Bosworth. "Pumped-up, polished updos are ultra-feminine and guaranteed to complement every holiday look," says Anthony.
