"From the Corner of the Oval" will give you a glimpse of life in the White House

Beck Dorey-Stein, a former stenographer for the Obama administration, writes about her personal struggles, finding herself and perfecting her craft.

It's not often that a memoir set in the White House manages to be heartfelt, funny and pointed, but this one from Beck Dorey-Stein, a former stenographer for the Obama administration, is just that. She shares stories of her close-knit friends "in the bubble" (as she calls it), flying on Air Force One and exercising alongside the then-president, as well as those of personal struggles with finding her chosen family, growing up and honing her craft. As it turns out, her craft is writing—not stenography.

From the Corner of the Oval (Spiegel & Grau) by Beck Dorey-Stein, $35.
