3 best TED Talks about love

You're probably familiar with TED Talks and have a collection of your favourite ones on a variety of topics. I love TED Talks because even though the Internet can be a chaotic space where there's a lot going on, these talks act as a well, full of information, inspiration and innovative ideas for people from all walks of life. 620x413_illustration-couple-heart1405948497 The good folks over at TED recently curated a playlist that's right up this relationships editor's alley. It's called " In the mood for love" and, as the title connotes, it's about love. Whether you're curious about the different kinds of love that exist in this world, or need tips (and inspiration) on how to be a better lover, or if you simply love love and need more love, this is the the ultimate playlist for you. Here are three videos from that playlist that I think everyone should listen to. I'm biased because they're some of my favourites, but I think you will enjoy them, too. Editor's note: #3 tops my list of all-time favourite TED Talks because it combines two of my favourite things: writing letters and, well, love. <3

1. The secret to desire in a long-term relationship In long-term relationships, we often expect our beloved to be both best friend and erotic partner. But as Esther Perel argues, good and committed sex draws on two conflicting needs: our need for security and our need for surprise. So how do you sustain desire? With wit and eloquence, Perel lets us in on the mystery of erotic intelligence.

So, as any fan of data would do: she started making a spreadsheet. Hear the story of how she went on to hack her online dating life — with frustrating, funny and life-changing results [HTML2]

3. Love letters to strangers Hannah Brencher's mother always wrote her letters. So when she felt herself bottom into depression after college, she did what felt natural — she wrote love letters and left them for strangers to find. The act has become a global initiative, The World Needs More Love Letters, which rushes handwritten letters to those in need of a boost.
