Emerging new trend: grandma baby showers

baby shower Move over mom-to-be, there's a new mom in town that wants to celebrate the birth of YOUR baby by having her very own baby shower too - YOURS! Yup, you heard that right. Women aren't just attending their pregnant daughter's showers, but enjoying grandma showers designed especially for them. Grandma baby showers are a relatively new trend that celebrate the grandma-to-be's new family role. A few friends get together with the grandma-to-be, sip cocktails from baby bottles and ooh and ahhh at all the new baby onesies, books and stuffed animals. One reason why this event is growing in popularity is that many grandparents are becoming caregivers to their grandchildren when both parents are working. They see this as a great way to obtain some of the baby gear needed when the child is in their care. The baby shower also serves as a great opportunity for the new grandma to learn some wisdom from women who have already been there. What are your thoughts on this? I'll be completely honest here and tell you that unlike diaper parties, where guests are asked to bring a box of beer and a box of diapers to the expectant father's low-key party, I think this ranks highly on the ridiculous scale. My mom took care of all of her 11 grandchildren during their infant and toddler years and it never occurred to anyone of us that she should receive a baby shower. Cribs and toys and strollers were either purchased by us or donated by friends. Our children never lacked the necessities needed to ensure their safety at grandma's house. Would you attend a grandma-to-be baby shower?
