Football coach suspends entire team for their disappointing off-the-field behaviour

footballs After a guidance counselor informed him of a cyberbullying incident that pointed a finger at the football players, former student and current Utah high school coach, Matt Lebrun took a stand and suspended all 80 of his players. Although they could not tell who was behind the bullying, Lebrun told his team "we don't want that represented in our program." Furthermore, he was also concerned about players failing and skipping classes as well as showing disrespect to teachers."We felt like everything was going in a direction that we didn't want our young men going. We needed to make a stand." After an upsetting loss, Lebrun gathered the team and told them that he was not happy with some of their actions and requested that they all turn in their jerseys and equipment. He told them that they had to earn the privilege to play again. He ended the night by inviting them to a 7am meeting the next morning where they would get a chance to re-earn a spot on the team. "We looked at it as a chance to say, 'Hey, we need to focus on some things that are more important that winning a football game'. said Lebrun. We got an emotional response from the boys. I think it really meant something to them, which was nice to see that it does mean something. There was none of them that fought us on it." Instead of practice, the boys performed community service, attended study hall and went to a class on character development before being allowed to partake in the next game. They were also required to write a report about their actions. Do you think this coach was justified in his actions or do you believe this to be an extreme method of discipline?      photo courtesy of barisdilaver/Flickr
