Royal baby's name breaks with tradition

zara-phillips-baby On January 17, the Queen's eldest granddaughter, Zara Phillips, gave birth to a baby girl. And ever since Zara and her rugby player husband Mike Tindall welcomed the newest member of the royal family, people have been wondering what they would name their little princess. There were bets that it would be Charlotte, Victoria or Poppy, which are very traditional British names. M any believed the little girl's middle name would be Anne or Elizabeth to honour Zara's mother Princess Anne and the Queen. But today the baby's name was revealed on proud dad Mike's twitter and it's not a traditional royal family name or even a typical British name. It's Mia Grace. I think this is a beautiful name and I am personally a fan of a more modern names sorry sweet baby George, I like your middle names, but I'm not a fan of the name George, it seems too old for a bouncing baby boy. I have to admit I'm not surprised Zara didn't go with a traditional name. Zara's name isn't exactly traditional and Zara herself is the free spirit of the royal family. There also isn't the same expectation for Zara to give her child a traditional name since her baby isn't the future king or queen like baby George is. Zara does not have a royal title, her mother decided not to give them to her children. So baby Mia, who is 16th in line to the throne, will not have a title either. She will simply be known as Miss Tindall. Of course there is nothing simple about being a member of the royal family and the cousin to Prince George. Since Mia and George are so close in age I imagine these two will be close friends. And Mia will of course be close with her other cousins, Savannah and Isla, who are the Canadian cuties in line for the throne. Personally I can't wait to see what little Mia looks like and I wonder what she will grow up to be. Will she be a future Olympian like her mom? Or love rough and tumble sports like her dad? And of course, what kind of hats will she wear when she gets older? What do you think of the new royal baby's name? Photo courtesy of Walking With the Wounded/FlickrCC
