Special postmark for Christmas cards

If you have your Christmas cards and packages all ready to go (well done, you) you can make them a little more special with a postmark from Christmas Island in Cape Breton, N.S. Each year postmistress Hughena MacKinnon and her postal elves handstamp almost 15,000 cards and packages from collectors and holiday enthusiasts during the peak holiday season. "We just put the final touch on it and send them on to where they are going," says MacKinnon. The tradition started 18 years ago when MacKinnon's predecessor asked Canada Post to create a postmark for the community. If you would like to have your cards stamped, it is best to get them out in the next week or so, says MacKinnon. Just package all your fully addressed cards with correct postage into a larger envelope and send it to: Christmas Island Post Office 8499 GRAND NARROWS HWY CHRISTMAS ISLAND NS B1T 1A0
