Oh WestJet, you brought tears to our eyes with the WestJet Christmas Surprise and I'll be damned if you didn't just do it again! In honour of Father's Day, together with Ronald McDonald House, WestJet found a way to bring a family together during some very difficlt times. Father's Day is June 15th. For one special dad, it came early. Four-year old Joel was diagnosed with tricuspid atresia, a congenital heart condition, shortly after his birth and has spent much of his young life in the hospital. His mom, Angela, stays with him at the Ronald McDonald House in Northern Alberta while Joel receives treatment at the Stollery Children's Hospital. Joel's father, Marc, works in their hometown of Saskatoon to support the family, while his son Mathieu, attends a local Saskatoon school. A WestJet employee trained for and took over Marc's job for one full week so he could spend time with his sick child and not be penalized financially. Time together is a rare occurrence for this young family and this was the absolute best gift this hard working dad could have ever received.
