1. Push And Glide
Put your winter blahs on ice – enjoy an outdoor skate followed by hot chocolate. Lace up at Ottawa's Rideau Canal, Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square and Natrel Rink at Harbourfront Centre, Sudbury's Ramsay Lake Skate Path, Kingston's Springer Market Square, London's Storybook Gardens or Niagara Falls' TD RINK at the Brink.
2. Learn To Ski
It's never too late! Book a package at a ski resort that caters to novices. Many resorts including Blue Mountain in Collingwood and Horseshoe Resort in Barrie offer packages geared specifically to newbies that include rentals, lift tickets and lessons. Kids in grades 4 and 5 receive free lift tickets all across Ontario with the SnowPass program.
3. Get Cozy In A Yurt
Try winter camping at Ontario Parks – it's now more accessible and comfortable than ever. Cross-country ski or toboggan the dunes at The Pinery on the shores of Lake Huron, then spend the night in one of the park's 12 yurts. It's one of several Ontario provincial parks including Algonquin, Killarney, MacGregor Point, Quetico and Silent Lake with roofed accommodation with bunks, heat and electricity available in the winter.
4. Revel In The Season
Celebrate winter at snow festivals throughout the province. Ottawa's iconic Winterlude should be on everyone's list, but there are also a slew of others like Barrie's Winterfest, Waterloo's Winterloo, Sault Ste. Marie's Bon Soo Winter Carnival and the Wiarton Willie Festival.
5. Make A Splash
Stay inside with a 100,000 square foot indoor water park (heated to 29°C), an interactive wizard quest and a kids' spa – all part of the Great Wolf Lodge experience in Niagara. Fallsview Indoor Waterpark is also hugely popular with families, and offers great getaway packages and special offers year-round.
6. Get Smart
Make learning fun with mind snacks at Ontario museums, galleries and science centres. Check out the rare dinosaur nests at the Royal Ontario Museum's Dinosaur Eggs & Babies exhibit or let the kids tap into their creativity at Sudbury's Science North. Learn how to appreciate art on the Art Gallery of Hamilton's Family-Time Mini-Tours, and watch your kids create their own masterpieces on Family Fun Days.
