What started out as an indie festival now features all kinds of musicians (this year it will welcome Lorde and Outkast), though it still favours many indie acts (think Volcano Choir and Mac DeMarco). Veld Music Festival, Toronto Aug. 2-3 This festival is a must for electronic music lovers. Featuring Armin van Buuren, Calvin Harris and lots of other amazing DJs, the lineup is sure to impress. Even though Veld is only on its third year, expect a huge crowd of screaming, sweaty fans dancing to the beats. Squamish Valley Music Festival, Squamish, B.C. Aug. 8-10 This festival has grown to epic proportions since it was first held in 2010, and this year organizers are expecting a whopping 35,000 people. With acts including everyone from Bruno Mars to Tokyo Police Club, it's not hard to see what all the fuss is about. The Gathering, Burlington, NL Aug. 22-24 Comedian Shaun Majumder started The Gathering as a celebration of Burlington, his tiny hometown. Highlighting Newfoundland culture, local food and great Canadian music, this festival will make you feel right at home. This year attendees will enjoy music from Sam Roberts and Great Big Sea alumnus Sean McCann.
