How you can save on your dream wedding

The economic downturn has many people switching from big spenders to penny pinchers. This frugal mentality not only affects how often you dine out or how much you'll part with for a pair of jeans, it also affects the bigger things in life – like planning your wedding.

You may not think your wedding is the place to cut costs, but there are ways to save on your celebration without sacrificing style, sophistication or fun. Wedding planner Susan Hyatt offers her top tips for a budget-friendly wedding.

1. Choose seasonal flowers
You can spend a bit more on an exotic bridal bouquet, but use seasonal flowers for the bridesmaids and other floral arrangements. If you want to jazz up a bouquet of seasonal flowers, Hyatt suggests incorporating a pretty pendent or strand of (faux) pearls into the arrangement, or even adding colourful ribbon.
