Like many of the friends, family and readers I've chatted with over the past number of weeks, I feel like summer passed me by. Maybe it was because the weather across the country was so erratic and unpredictable, but for whatever reason, it seems that many of us just didn't get into the groove this summer. Don't despair; this could be the season for doing just that.

Now that the heady days of fall are upon us, the time is ripe for getting into makeover mode, whether that means updating your wardrobe, hair or beauty style; taking a new approach to fitness and nutrition; or tackling projects around the house that will make you feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

You'll find numerous feature articles in this issue that will help you get into your own groove. If you're looking to update your personal style, you'll be inspired by our story on four lucky staff members (two of whom are pictured with me here, senior editor Donna Paris and editorial assistant Emma Yardley) who received expert advice from none other than internationally acclaimed fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi and a team of beauty professionals, who updated and polished each woman's look. The results? Absolutely stunning. If you're considering a new fitness regimen that really suits you – and your schedule – check out "At-Home Fitness: 10 Easy Pieces". You can easily customize a workout plan to fit your time and budget. As always, we've got the best of Canadian cooking at your fingertips. Go ahead, try something new. You may be surprised.

I am particularly inspired by our trio of kitchen makeovers this month. I had been mulling over the idea of renovating my kitchen and living room space for a long time. My husband and I have a small, open-concept space that hasn't been renovated in more than 30 years (yes, you read that correctly). We decided to update our space as well as replace our tired appliances with more energy-efficient, green-friendly products. After going through many books and watching endless home-reno shows, we were still stumped.

It wasn't until we were in our neighbourhood Home Depot, buying garden supplies, and wandered into the kitchen department that we found our answer. We were lucky enough to meet Home Depot's trend and design manager, Frank, and kitchen showroom designer, Georgina. Within a week of sitting down with this talented duo, we had a plan in place. We've since ordered the materials and are ready to start renovating. You can see the results in our April issue, and I'll also be posting regular updates on the Canadian Living website as my kitchen reno progresses. Perhaps you'll be inspired, which is a good thing, because Home Depot has agreed to partner with us on a contest in which one of you, our faithful readers, can win a kitchen overhaul of your own. Watch for contest details in the November issue of Canadian Living.

Until next time,
- Susan Antonacci
