Thank you for the Easy Chocolate Cake recipe ("Party Cakes," July). My four-year-old son is allergic to dairy and eggs, so this recipe was a huge find. We made it together for our Father's Day celebration. My son chose to put it into some car moulds, as his dad is a car guy. The little cars turned out wonderfully, and the cake was enjoyed by both the kids and the adults.
I have been cooking out of your magazines and cookbooks since I was a child. I even remember being in the kitchen with my mom cooking from her magazines. So being a trusting member of the Canadian Living Cooks Club (so to speak), you can imagine my excitement when I came across this cake. It wasn't a recipe I had to fiddle with or change, and because it was from The Canadian Living Test Kitchen, I knew I could trust it would turn out!
I do have one question, though: My son is a big vanilla fan and wants vanilla for his birthday cake. Do you have an alternative recipe?
