Reader's story: Gifts to last

For the past 26 years, I have been making most of my Christmas treats – everything from gingerbread and sugar cookies to nut crescents and cranberry bread – from the well-worn pages of this book, and they never fail to disappear over the holidays.

I had just finished my Christmas baking when something occurred to me. In 1982, I received a copy of the Canadian Living cookbook as a wedding shower gift. For the past 26 years, I have been making most of my Christmas treats – everything from gingerbread and sugar cookies to nut crescents and cranberry bread – from the well-worn pages of this book, and they never fail to disappear over the holidays.

The best part is that I was able to give my daughters a new and improved – but the same – cookbook to start from like I received, all those years ago. There is something to be said for tradition. Thank you, Canadian Living.
