Thank you for highlighting kayaking in your May article "Spring Into Fitness." In case any readers skimmed through the article after seeing the words "investment of several thousands of dollars," there are other options.
Tackling kayaking as a new activity can be less intimidating and less costly if you turn to one of the many canoe and kayak clubs in Canada. Depending on the type of club, youth and adult members can participate in programs beginning at the learn-to level and advancing to ones developed by certified professional coaches and instructors.
Members may also be able to join in organized trips, participate in various racing events and access high quality equipment, all while enjoying the social benefits of being part of a training group. To find a club in your community, go to the Canoe Kayak Canada website at canoekayak.ca; click on Links to find links to 85 clubs across the country. There are other clubs not affiliated with Canoe Kayak Canada, so also contact your provincial canoe/kayak organization for more options.
