Our Canada: Edmundston and Moncton, N.B.

Why you should visit my neck of the woods
I am from Edmundston, New Brunswick, which is in the Republic of Madawaska —the only Republic in Canada. Don't believe me? Click here to learn more.

Edmundston was voted as the hospitality capital of Canada. In the winter, visitors can ski at the beautiful Mont Farlagne, and in the summer the not-to-miss event is the Foire Brayonne which celebrates our culture and ancestry. There are outdoor concerts, a market of local artisanal goods, competitions, tournaments, and of course, our favourite local food, ploye, served warm with melted butter on top. Yum, yum! Flower and plant lovers should not miss the botanical gardens in Saint Jacques, the only gardens of this nature in all of New Brunswick. Whenever I go back home to Edmundston, I always eat at my favourite spot, Le Paradis du Pecheur, which serves the best lobster poutine you will ever eat in your life, I promise!

Next up: Moncton
Visitors in the Moncton area should most definitely see the Hopewell Rocks. This attraction is one of the Marine Wonders of the World, and is the site of some of the world's highest tides – up to four storeys high! When the tide is low, you get to walk on the ocean floor in the shadows of the majestic flower-pot rocks, unique formations carved by erosion over thousands of years.

Anyone who likes the sun and surf should go to Parlee Beach, one of our most famous saltwater destinations. It's the perfect place to enjoy a family vacation, a trip with friends or to just relax and unwind, plus we have the warmest salt water in the country and long stretches of sandy shores.

Where you should eat in these parts
Any visitor to Moncton should eat at Café Calactus. It is a vegetarian and vegan restaurant but I, as well as my meat-loving friends, love the food there as it is so tasty and beautifully prepared.

But my all-time favourite place to eat, which I would recommend to everyone, is, of course, my house ("wink wink"), or so I have been told by anyone who I have invited over to dinner. Hope to have you come visit us in New Brunswick. It is the most beautiful and regionally diverse province in Canada.
