Enjoy springtime in St. Lucia

Forget about Paris – all those overblown buildings, noisy streets and that dusty old art – and think about heading to St. Lucia this spring to experience the glorious sun, a cooling sea breeze, local charm and lots of fabulous jazz.

St. Lucia has been attracting music lovers to the annual St. Lucia Jazz Festival for two decades, which has featured stellar musical talent such as Branford Marsalis, Santana, Herbie Hancock, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jean Luc Ponty and Esperanza Spalding. Sounds like a music-lovers paradise, doesn't it?

Located between Martinique and St. Vincent in the eastern Caribbean Sea, St. Lucia is a relatively mountainous volcanic island, featuring lush rain forests in its interior. The island is rich in culture and history with obvious influences from the French, African and English. St Lucia's overall vibe is that of a laid-back Sunday afternoon. No rushing allowed – there's always tomorrow.

Here are four reasons why you should make St. Lucia a destination this spring.

4 reasons to visit St. Lucia
1. World-class music
The week long St. Lucia Jazz Festival, held at the end of April and into the beginning of May, is known to locals as "Jazz". The festival attracts throngs of locals and foreigners. The festival is full of talent, but it's the laid back attitude and the beautiful island setting that sets it apart.

The main venue, located in Pigeon Island National Park in the northwest end of the island, is a glorious setting on a gently sloping hill that overlooks the ocean. Even the occasional rain shower can't dampen the infectious enthusiasm of everyone around you. Bring a blanket and enjoy the party.
