Peggy's Cove
If you want to feel that you've truly experienced the beauty of Nova Scotia, visiting Peggy's Cove is an absolute must. It's known as one of the most idyllic fishing villages in Atlantic Canada, with the classic red and white Peggy's Point Lighthouse that guards the pounding coastline.
While bright blue skies are certainly peaceful, we found the area looked especially magical and mysterious when the slightly smoky clouds rolled in. After a wet and windy day, we sought refuge inside the Sou' Wester restaurant (named appropriately after the slick rain caps) for some delicious battered fish and the desert that had the whole table talking – real, moist gingerbread (a local fave, we're told). We topped ours with soft-serve ice cream and whipped cream.
Bishop's Landing
On our first day in Bluenose territory, we discovered a stunning view of the city's harbourfront. We were particularly taken with what felt like an upscale ski village, peppered with cosy coffee shops, trendy spas, fine dining, wine cellars and charming fashion boutiques.
We fell for the friendly atmosphere at Urbanity Salon, the giant chocolate chip cookies at Caffe Ristretto and the impressive selection of unique and custom clothing and cosmetics at Turbine, all by Lisa Drader-Murphy, a well-known local designer. Shopping aside, Bishop's Landing is well worth the visit, even if it’s just to stroll along the docks, or sit on a bench and watch the water.
