8 reasons to vacation in Iceland
If Iceland isn't on your list of must-visit destinations, you really should reconsider. This island in the North Atlantic is a smorgasbord of delights for the senses and will especially appeal to those with a true appreciation for nature at its grandest.
Boasting volcanoes, mountains, glaciers, nearby islands, the Northern Lights and the Blue Lagoon, Mother Nature pulled out all the stops here. Iceland is a home of elf folklore and traditional charm that make the trip here interesting and unique.
Here are eight things to see and do:
1. Visit the Blue Lagoon
No visit to Iceland is complete without a dip in the famous Blue Lagoon. This geothermal spa is one of the most popular attractions in the country, not only because of its breathtaking beauty but also because of its therapeutic waters.
The lagoon's water, at an average temperature of 37 and 39C, are not a natural phenomenon. Rather, they're fed by the output of a nearby geothermal power plant.
The lagoon is 5,000 square metres and welcomes more than 400,000 visitors each year. A swim in these waters is relaxing and refreshing and since the lagoon is just 22 km from Keflavik Airport, many visitors pay a visit here as soon as they arrive or just before departing Iceland.
