How can I get my 30-month-old to eat more nutritious food? He eats cereal or waffles for breakfast, hardly any lunch and not too much for dinner. Mind you, he does drink milk a lot throughout the day. He is always ready to eat a cookie or candy! Thanks!

Dear Mom This is a very common problem of young children. One of the most common reasons a youngster under-eats is because he is over-drinking. For a youngster, milk is very satisfying but it fills up his tummy quickly. If by any chance your little guy is still on a bottle, now's the time to quit. Kids drink less milk, which is a good thing, when they drink from a cup. Aim for approximately fifteen ounces of milk a day. Keep mealtimes fun and relaxing and your child will explore more foods as time goes by. But whatever you do, avoid food battles as I guarantee your child will win. As long as you hit each food group over the course of a week, you're doing just fine. ---Regards, Dr C Tobin
