My two-and-a-half-year-old daughter has begun to wet her bed every night. She never wet her bed until a couple of weeks ago and it has been every night since. I did discuss this with my pediatrician and she suggested I cut down on the liquids, etc. and that my daughter is still very young. I have no problem with changing her sheets, it's just that she used to wake up and tell me whenever she needed to use the bathroom, so I'm a little concerned and not sure how to handle it.

Dear Parent, When there are changes in a child's nighttime dryness, it's worth checking a urine sample to evaluate whether the child has a urinary tract infection. If the results are negative, I would allow your little girl to backtrack without making an issue of it. Use pull-ups without embarrassment or punitive overtones. In a few weeks, I'd ask your little lady if she'd like to try without pull-ups again. If she says 'No' just say something like, "Okay, maybe later." If she wants to give it a try, I'd make a bathroom visit before you go to bed. In the meantime, as long as she doesn't have an infection, I would feel relaxed about the situation given that she is still such a young peanut. --Cathryn Tobin
