1. Breakfast in Italy

A typical breakfast for Italian children includes fresh butter pastries and juice, while adults generally sip a frothy cappuccino or black coffee.

"A variety of cornetti (Italian croissants) are a morning indulgence, served plain or filled with marmellata (marmalade), crema (pastry cream) or Nutella," says Allison Brown, a Canadian citizen who lived in Rome for 18 years. "The ciambella is also delicious -- it's a doughnut dusted with sugar."
