Keepsake Painted Ornaments

Use these pretty painted ornaments to decorate your tree or as napkin rings for your holiday table setting.

Supplies:
• Unfinished papier-mâché and wooden ornaments*
• Metallic gold dimensional craft paint in applicator-tip plastic bottle, gold acrylic paint, fine- and broad-tip permanent gold markers, small seasonal stencils, gold stamp pad and stamps*
• Acrylic paints in desired colours*
• Artist's paintbrushes*
• Clear acrylic spray varnish (optional)*
• Scraps of gold cord, narrow satin ribbon or wire-edged ribbon*
• Stickers, photos and motifs cut from Christmas cards, gift wrap, comics or
computer clip art
• Sequins or buttons (optional)
• White craft glue
• Small piece of sponge

*Available at craft supply stores.

Instructions:

1. If necessary, tie short length of cord to top of each ornament for hanging loop. Brush on base coat of paint in desired colour; hang to dry.

2. With paint (using brush or sponge), marker(s) or stamps, decorate ornament; hang to dry.

3. Adhere stickers or glue on photos, paper cutouts, tiny bows, ribbon scraps, sequins or buttons if desired; let dry. Spray with varnish if desired.

4. To use as napkin ring: Roll up napkin and slide through hanging loop. Or thread 50 cm (19-3/4 in) length of cord or ribbon through hanging loop, wrap around rolled napkin and tie in bow.
