There's face all over your egg

By Jean Scobie

This is a great activity for kids of all ages.

For a family reunion or a neighbourhood get-together, this craft is a great any-age activity. Have each person make an "eggstraspecial" portrait of someone else and then line up everybody and their crafty little counterparts for a mug shot.

You need:

•Uncooked white or brown eggs, for heads
•Toilet paper rolls, for bodies
•Scraps of fabric, felt, lace, ribbons and trims, for clothing
•Scraps of yarn, for hair
•Pom-poms 1/4 inch in diameter (available at craft supply •stores) to match eggshells, for noses
•Tiny buttons, seed beads, bits of costume jewelry and artificial flowers
•Black and brown permanent fine-tip markers
•Red tempera paint, for cheek blush
•Egg cartons
•Scissors
•Rulers
•Pencils
•White craft glue and/or glue gun
•Darning needle
•Bowl
•Paper towels

To make:

One or two days ahead: Using warm water and soap, wash eggs; dry well. With needle, make hole in ends of each egg; blow contents out into bowl. Wipe eggs clean with paper towels, then replace in carton. Arrange supplies on a tray for each table.

1. Glue nose on head. With markers, draw on eyes and freckles. Wet fingertip; apply blush to cheeks. Glue on hair. Set head in carton to dry.

2. From fabric scrap, cut piece approx 2 cm (3/4 in) longer than body roll and 1.5 cm (5/8 in) wider than its circumference. Apply glue to outside of roll and approx 1 cm (3/8 in) down each inside edge. Wrap fabric around roll, overlapping long edges and folding short edges over to inside. Decorate as desired. Apply glue around top inside edge of body; set head in place; let dry.
