Before taking your tots tobogganing, check out these simple safety tips to ensure injury-free fun.
1. Use a sled your kids can steer and stop. Avoid sliding carpets, saucers and other sledding equipment that’s difficult to control.
2. Have them sled sitting up with legs in front or kneeling. Don't let kids coast downhill headfirst or standing up.
3. Children should always wear a properly fitted hockey, ski or bike helmet to prevent head injuries.
4. Choose a hill with a gentle slope and a long runoff area so the sled can come to a halt safely.
5. Make sure the hill is free of obstacles such as trees and rocks.
6. Tell your kids to wait until there are no people at the bottom of the hill before they head down.
