CHEESY CABBAGE CASSEROLE

This tasty casserole uses the ingredients in cabbage rolls without the fuss.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound extra-lean ground beef 1 pound extra-lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion , chopped1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup uncooked rice 1/2 cup uncooked rice
  • 3 cups shredded cabbage 3 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1 grated carrot 1 grated carrot
  • 1 680ml can tomato sauce 1 680ml can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp pepper 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Preparation

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Brown ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium high heat until no pink remains. Place rice, cabbage and carrot into a large greased casserole. Add cooked ground beef and onion. Mix tomato sauce, water and pepper in a small bowl. Pour over cabbage and mix well. Cover and bake in 350 degree oven for approximately 50 minutes stirring once after 25 minutes. Uncover and sprinkle cheese on top. Bake for 10 minutes more or until cheese melts and bubbles.
