The use of croissants instead of regular dried bread enhances the light and buttery richness of this dessert. A special treat would be to serve it warm with a scoop of cold vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 5 large croissants
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2-1/2 cups whole milk
  • 6 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup raisins, (optional)

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 350 deg F. 2. Cut or tear croissants in chunks or cubes. 3. Using about 1 tbsp. of butter, grease the bottom and sides of a sqaure glass casserole dish or ceramic dish (1-1/2 quart) that is large enough to hold the bread. Put the bread pieces into the bread. Sprinkle raisins on top if using. 4. Combine eggs, milk, sugar, nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon, and melted butter together in a bowl. 5. Pour mixture over the bread. Let sit for about 15 minutes until absorbed. 6. Bake in the oven for about 45 - 60 minutes until puffed and golden brown on top. 7. Let cool for about 15 minutes and serve.
