Great for winter buffets or potluck. Freezes well. Delicious with garlic bread and salad.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups penne pasta 3 cups penne pasta
  • 1-1/2 lb ground beef 1-1/2 lb ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic , crushed2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 can (large) tomato sauce 1 can (large) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (156 mL) tomato paste 1 can (156 mL) tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tub (500 mL) creamed cottage cheese 1 tub (500 mL) creamed cottage cheese
  • 1 tub (500 mL) sour cream 1 tub (500 mL) sour cream
  • 3 green onions , chopped3 green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1-1/2 cups grated mozzarella cheese 1-1/2 cups grated mozzarella cheese

Preparation

Cook pasta; drain well. In fry pan, brown beef and garlic. Drain fat. Stir in tomato sauce and paste, oregano, salt and pepper. Bring to boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Pour mixture into greased 13x9 inch pan. Combine cooked pasta with cottage cheese, sour cream, green onions and parmesan cheese. Spoon evenly over meat layer. Sprinkle with lots of mozzarella cheese. Bake, covered, for 30-35 minutes and take cover off and bake for another 30 minutes (until heated through). Watch top doesn't get too dark.
