Canada??s most romantic date locations

"With glowing hearts" may well be an understatement after you read through this list of romantic hot spots that are sure to get your own heart beating faster.

"Canada is as unique and romantic as its people," says Elyse Mailhot, the travel media relations officer of the Canadian Tourism Commission. "Our welcoming land and diversity of cultures and experiences compel you to shout to the world how much you love the place!"

Here is a cross-country glimpse into some of our favourite, sure-fire romantic destinations for you and your sweetie to visit.

British Columbia
Sonora Resort is one the most luxurious wilderness resorts in British Columbia and was voted the No. 1 Luxury Hotel in Canada by Trip Advisor's 2011 Travelers' Choice Awards. It's a 50-minute helicopter trip from Vancouver, with postcard views en route. This five-star facility has it all – outdoor action adventure, grizzly bear and bald eagle spotting trips, salmon fishing, a world-class spa, outdoor pools and hot tubs, and of course excellent local cuisine. The luxe rooms are rustic and romantic, and feature ocean and mountain views.

Alberta
Banff and Lake Louise, which are smack dab in the middle of the majestic Canadian Rockies, are only two hours west of Calgary by car. They're ideal destinations year round, whether you want to ski in the winter or golf or hike in the summer. They're about as picturesque as you can get – plus all that fresh air is bound to stir up some snuggle time. Be sure to sink into the steamy Banff Upper Hot Springs, a charming bathhouse that hasn't changed much since the 1930s.

Saskatchewan
Giddy up! Historic Reesor Ranch in the Cypress Hills offers a Cowboy Comfort Romance Package that's sure to bring out the romantic rancher in you. Go on a sunset horse ride, followed by a stay in a cosy cabin where a hot tub and wine gift basket await you. Then hunker down to a hearty cowboy breakfast in the ranch house the next morning, because you'll surely have built up an appetite.

Ontario
Toronto’s thrilling new EdgeWalk at the CN Tower is proving to be a bucket-list experience for thrill-seeking couples. Adrenaline rushes can be very romantic, after all, considering all that heart-pounding excitement. Apparently 12 marriage proposals have taken place at the EdgeWalk in the last year, not to mention the numerous milestone anniversaries that have been celebrated there.

Quebec Eastern Townships
Why not go on a romantic cruise? The luxury excursion boat Le Grand Cru, which tours beautiful Lake Memphrémagog in Quebec, makes for a lovely day on the water, including a gourmet brunch, lunch or dinner.

Northwest Territories
Mush! Travel across frozen ice by dogsled at night – under the majestic northern lights – to Blachford Lake Lodge’s prospector tents for an unforgettable experience. From Yellowknife, it’s just another 20 minutes to the lodge. Dine on fresh Arctic char and caribou that have been grilled over an open fire by your own private chef.

New Brunswick
Lover’s Arch at the Hopewell Rocks is a great place for a smooch – not to mention the many “kissing bridges” found around the province, including the world’s longest covered bridge, which can be found in Hartland. And be sure to check out the first heart-shaped box developed by the Ganong Brothers at the Chocolate Museum in St. Stephen, for some old-fashioned fun.
