Makeup tips: When to skip the brush and use your fingers

So Christmas is over and you're on a budget. That doesn't mean your beauty routine has to suffer. Occasionally, the cheapest route is actually the best one, and such is the case when it comes to using fingers to apply some kinds of makeup. Makeup-application Vanessa Jarman, Canadian makeup artist and spokesperson for Rimmel London, says, "If it's a cream or liquid, then I use my hands for everything." There are two main reasons she says fingers are so useful:  1. "I don't want to use a sponge [or brush] when it comes to foundation because that soaks up all of the product. You waste your money." 2. "If you're a woman who's reusing that sponge on a daily, you're definitely harming the skin with layering and pasting bacteria onto the surface every morning. We're all applying makeup in such a rush. To go that step further and to have all your brushes clean is unlikely." Do your wallet and your skin a favour and apply liquid and cream foundations, blushes, concealers and eyeshadows with your fingers. Photo courtesy of Shiok Deal on Flickr
