A hydrating mousse that fights the signs of aging with the antioxidants found in cocoa. What we found: It smells and feels just like you're rubbing a thick chocolate mousse all over your face. Leave it on for five to 10 minutes and it will dry and tighten, which is mildly uncomfortable, but typical for many masks. Wipe it off with a face cloth for added exfoliation and shorter removal time and you'll find your skin looks fresher and feels softer immediately.Bonus: This product is made with organic ingredients, contains no harmful chemicals, is not tested on animals, and is made with renewable energy!$48, eminenceorganics.com. Rodial White Brightening Mask What is it? A brightening fruit acid mask that aims to exfoliate and retexture the skin to reduce the appearance of age spots, blotches and uneven skin tone. What we found: The product is a clear gel that smells slightly citrusy. Apply a generous helping over the entire face and neck, then leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. Our parched skin soaked it up, so there wasn't a ton to remove with lukewarm water afterwards. In selfies the next day, we noticed our skin looked less blotchy—even without makeup.$72, murale.ca.For tips for looking better rested, click here. Korres Greek Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial What is it? A protein-packed overnight face mask that hydrates, soothes and nourishes dry skin. What we found: It's not at all what you'd expect. If you put it on 15 minutes before bed, it mostly soaks into the skin so there won't be any residue left on your pillow case. By the time you wake up, there will be no trace. It's basically an ultra-rich night cream, and it hydrates throughout the night the same way that a high quality cream would. Bonus: No parabens, sulfates, synthetic dye, wheat or nuts. It's also not tested on animals.$59, sephora.ca. Fresh Crème Ancienne Ultimate Nourishing Honey Mask What is it? Made with honey from the Buckfast Bee, as well as Echinacea (an antioxidant) and nourishing meadowfoam sea oil, seabuckthorn oil and shea butter, this mask aims to hydrate and improve elasticity. What we found: This heavy white jar is filled with super, super rich honey-like gel. If you enjoy the smell of honey, you will love it (one of our editors is ready to bathe in the stuff because it smells so delicious), while it might be a little strong if honey isn’t your favourite scent (one of our editors hates the smell but puts up with the mask because she likes the results). It feels sticky on the skin, but definitely seems to improve suppleness. $152, sephora.ca. Dermalogica Clear Start Breakout Clearing Cooling Masque What is it? A soothing gel that tones down redness and irritation surrounding acne blemishes. What we found: This mask does exactly what it says—cools and tones down blemishes. Leave the clear gel on your face for about seven to 10 minutes. You’ll notice a cooling sensation and skin will be calmed by licorice as salicylic acid targets blemishes. While it doesn’t completely remove breakouts, it helps minimize irritation, thus making spots less noticeable. $28, dermalogica.ca. Estée Lauder Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Foam Cleanser/Purifying Mask What is it? A creamy foam cleanser that can be left on the skin for three minutes for extra purification. What we found: This product is great for use in the shower. When you hop in, massage it onto your face as you would a cleanser, but leave it on for a few extra minutes while you shampoo your hair. It will leave your skin feeling soft and clean if your skin is oily. The Crème Cleanser and Moisture Mask is probably a better formulation for those with dry skin.$28, esteelauder.com.Click for our 10 best spas for 2014. MaskerAide Pre Party Prep What is it? A cloth mask that brightens and primes the skin before a night out. What we found: This mask will make you look like Jason Voorhees from Friday The 13th while you’re wearing it, but it will leave skin feeling perfectly prepped for makeup. Unfold it, place it on cleansed skin for 10 to 20 minutes, and you’ll find your face is dewy, refreshed and ready to party.$6, maskeraide.com. Glamglow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment What is it? A mud mask made with French sea clay, volcanic pumice rock, and green tea leaf pieces that exfoliate to leave the skin smoother and brighter. What we found: This mask dries on the face over the course of 10 minutes. Removal with warm water, rubbing in circular motions, will lightly exfoliate to remove dead skin and help increase cellular turn over. This mask will definitely cause a tingling or itching sensation, so sensitive skin types might want to avoid it. Bonus: A smaller version of the mask is available for $21.$76, sephora.ca. Whistler Naturals Sugar Apple Renewal Masque What is it? A mask that calms and revitalizes skin while protecting cells against visible signs of aging. What we found: It smells delicious and has a nice soft texture with a little bit of grit (for exfoliation). We tested it on one hand and could definitely see a difference between the two. It's extremely hydrating, which is perfect for combatting dryness. It's not recommended for those with sensitive skin.Bonus: It's vegan!$30, whistlernaturals.com. Masque Bar by Look Beauty Brightening Sheet Mask What is it? A sheet mask targeted at dry skin that aims to reduce dark spots and other hyperpigmentation. It is hydroquinone-free.What we found: This sheet mask is labeled as unscented and has very little odour. It didn’t have a huge effect on our dark spots, but our skin did feel soft afterwards. It contains alcohol—kind of strange for a mask aimed at dry skin—which causes some minor stinging throughout use.$10, shoppersdrugmart.ca.For more insider beauty advice, visit our Style Desk blog.
