New! Flavoured lip balms from Burt's Bees

These new products are good enough to eat! (Almost.)

Food-inspired lip balms may not be new (remember Lip Smacker!), but what's fresh and high-performing balms that smell and taste like real food. Enter Burt's Bees: It took the eco-friendly brand almost four years to come up with the technology and technique for a true burst of flavour (available in Fresh Squeezed Orange and Ripe Raspberry). Using a 100-percent-natural formula—beeswax to lock in hydration and coconut oil to soften and condition—teeny pieces of dehydrated fruit were added to the recipe. The real challenge came with the processing. "At first, putting the flavour crystals into the hot wax caused them to melt right away," says Abena Antwi, lead innovation scientist at Burt's Bees. After Antwi rebalanced the ingredients and realized the wax needed to be cooler, the formula suspended properly. "This lip balm is my baby," she says. Clearly, this recipe was made with a whole lot of love.
