Make Waves
At the Club Monaco show in New York Bumble and Bumble global artistic director Laurent Philippon went for a relaxed and soft wave. “We’re creating dream waves. We’re not doing a full loop with the curling iron because we don’t want that ringlet feel—it’s a very soft, natural wave.”

Bed Head
At the Thom Browne show Bumble and Bumble editorial stylist, Jimmy Paul went for the bigger is better approach. “We’re doing big, sexy, moveable hair. The girls are going to come out in swim caps and then take them off later in the show. We’re putting extensions in some of the girls and using a lot of Thickening Spray and Surf Spray. We’re then doing a curling iron set, brushing it out and teasing the hair. Thom never references a decade but I guess it’s a little bit 60s, a little bit 80s,” said Paul.

Fashion Waves
Alexander Wang did full on makeover backstage with Redken global creative director, Guido, orchestrating a small army to cut and bleach over 20 heads of hair. “All the girls have got Fashion Waves in their hair to get that beachy, dry, salty look. I’ve finished it up with a bit of Rough Paste to give it a chunky, matte feel. It’s inspired by the sea and being in the sun to get that sexy, matte look,” Guido.

Swept Away
Forget straight-down-the-line centre-partings this season, it's all about side-partings. At the Philip Lim show Paul Hanlon created a nest-like side swept bang paired with a low slung ponytail.

Hippy-ish
The Baja East show also wanted to highlight the models individual looks. “The thing that really unifies all the models is the bandana – which actually adds a bit of masculinity to help give each girl a more androgynous look. It’s funny how putting a scarf around the hair can really add some masculinity with a bit of a hippie vibe. I’ve added a good amount of our Diamond Oil High Shine Air Mist into the lengths to give the models a bit of a sweaty look, like maybe they’ve been outall night dancing, so it doesn’t feel too pretty. The heavy shine with the bandana helps add some weight to the look,” says Redken global creative director, Guido.

Braidy Bunch
At the Jeans For Refugees show in NYC stylist Ammon Carver created an intricate braided look with strong textural definition. Carver created sophisticated, detailed braided looks with French rope braids of diverse sizes that graduated in width from top to ends. Micro ‘spacer’ braids were placed between each rope braid to give the illusion of added space to amplify dimension. They were joined at the nape of the neck, and tied together to flow down over loose, deconstructed lengths of hair beneath.

Graphic Content
Models at the Opening Ceremony’s show had graphic hairlines to complement the linear collection. “There are some really cool designs pieced out on the clothing,” said lead stylist Holli Smith for Bumble and bumble. “The hair design in the front really plays off that.”

Natural Resources
This trend is one that any woman can get behind: be your best self and work with what you have instead of against it. “What we’re currently seeing as a trend on the runways are girls featured with their own ‘look’. Bringing out the girls’ individualities is so important to designers now. The designers are all casting very different girls – different hair textures, haircuts and hair looks to celebrate individuality. It’s amazing when you let your hair dry naturally. Of course, you can use products to control frizz and texture, like our Diamond Oil, but it’s great to see how your hair naturally falls,” says Redken global creative director, Guido.

Romantic Bohemian
Easy, airy and lovingly dishevelled was the hair look at The Proenza Schouler SS17 show. “We used the Gentle Shampoo on the girls with wavy to straight hair and the Bb.Curl Shampoo on the girls with natural texture. It’s a gorgeous day outside so we sent everyone out to air dry. We wanted them to feel very optimistic and upbeat—it really is about individuality. All the little mistakes we get in the hair after it’s been freshly washed is what we’re enjoying,” said stylist for Bumble and Bumble Anthony Turner.

With The Band
“The clothing has a retro feel with borrowed textures and patterns from the 1800s. I wanted to pull a sporty look from that hair but didn’t want everyone to look robotic or the same,” says Holli Smith for Bumble and Bumble. Models had tight chignons with pieces pulled out from the bun and around the hair line, along with the addition of a headband.

Clean Cut
“We’re doing super straight, clean hair at the Victoria Beckham show using Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Treatment Primer Cream and Satin Wear 02 to add shine and protect the hair from heat damage. As I’m blow-drying, I’m using a boar-bristled brush to smooth out the hair. To finish off the look, I’m using an iron to really give hair that shiny, smooth texture,” says Guido
