Finding the right self-tanner

With a plethora of products on the market today you can get the glow without ever coming into contact with a UV ray. Use a safe self-tanning product and save your skin from the harmful effects of natural or artificial UVA and UVB exposure.

Canadian Living Beauty Editor Julia McEwen says "Finding the ideal self-tanner tends to be a process of trial and error for most people," so don't be afraid to try a few of these products before you find the one that best suits your needs.

In order to ensure an even, natural looking, long-lasting glow, Julia suggests that you shave and exfoliate a day before applying a self-tanner. "Focus on areas that accumulate excess dead skin cells such as ankles, knees and elbows and moisturize immediately afterwards to help prepare your skin to accept the self-tanning product," she says.

To avoid streaks, which are a common problem, Julia suggests applying the product "quickly in circular motions". Lastly – make sure to wash your hands and in between your fingers as soon as you finish the application!
