The best lipsticks for spring 2015

A fresh season calls for a fresh lippie—whether a brand-new formula or simply a new-to-you shade. These five picks made our "best lipsticks" list for spring 2015. Let us know what you think! best lipsticks for spring 2015 - smashbox be legendary lipstick

The best matte lipstick
This rich, velvety matte orange lipstick from Smashbox Cosmetics looks as good in its tube as it does on your lips. The shade, Fireball, is part of six new matte lipsticks launching in the Be Legendary Lipstick family this April. The rich formula gives lips maximum saturation with a single swipe while feeling creamy and comfortable—which is a nice change from all the drying matte formulas out there.

best lipsticks for spring 2015 - stila nude lipstick

The best nude lipstick
If you’re looking for a wearable lipstick that gives you shine, moisturizes and adds an understatedtint of colour, then you need to pick up one of these three new nude balm-lipstick hybrids from Stila Cosmetics. They’re formulated with sunflower polyglycerides (a fatty-acid molecule) to soothe and smooth lips, plant-based emollients to give your pout a moisture surge and peppermint for a cooling sensation eachtime you apply.

Stila Nude Interlude Color Balm Lipstick in Meg (light), Sophie (medium) and Elyssa (deep), $29 each, sephora.ca.

Laura Mercier Paint Wash lipstick

The best liquid lipstick
Everlasting lip colourreally does exist when you dip into liquid lipsticks. This trend hit the beauty world four years ago, and it continues to grow in popularity. Touted for its full coverage, intense pigment and staying power, this fragrance-free lip colour from Laura Mercier is the perfect representation of the category: Itenvelops lips in bold yet lightweight cushiony colour (this brilliant berryshade takes top spot) and leaves lips with a demi-matte finish lasting from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—seriously.

Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in Fuchsia Mauve, $35, sephora.ca.

Nars lipstick in Angela

The best classic lipstick
Nars cosmetics turned 20 last fall, and to celebrate, the company paid homage to its first-ever release: a set of 12 lipsticks. The new-and-improved version comes in 40 shades and contains a pigment-rich full-coverage formula with moisturizing ingredients. We especially love this shade, a bright yet wearable shock of pink—a tone universally flattering on all complexions.

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Angela, $37, narscosmetics.com.
The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick

The best chubby stick
Although the image above makes it look like we’re suggesting black lipstick is trending for spring, that’s not the case. This innovative lip and cheek stain from The Body Shop uses ingredients that adapt to your skin’s pH levels to create your own custom poppy hue. Varying from a light pink to a deep berry, this waxy colour clings to lips for hours with medium coverage and a matte (but not drying) finish. This is the perfect gateway lipstick for women who usually prefer gloss, as it’s not too intense or high maintenance.

The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick Universal Shade, $15, thebodyshop.ca.
