I am a 29 year old female. I've been taking spironalactone for over a month now for hirsutism (excess hair) and acne. How long do I have to take this medication before I can see a difference?

Spronolactone is a synthetic steroid that binds to the body's androgen receptors and blocks the androgens from binding to the cell receptors, and androgens play a part in causing acne and hirsutism. It can take up to 6-9 months before you'll see the maximum benefit to this treatment, so don't give up! You can find out more about this drug at http://www.acneguide.ca/tf/content.asp?a=320. This drug should not be used if you are pregnant, have renal insufficiency or have abnormal menstrual bleeding.
