I have been going through the agony of shingles for the past four weeks. My skin is so sensitive to the touch that even a Kleenex bothers me. Is there a topical medication, either over the counter or by presciption, to ease this pain?

I am sorry to hear of your pain from shingles. Anesthetic creams can help a little. There is a cream called Zosterix which is approved but needs to be used after applying anesthetic creams as it burns for the first few days. Oral pain killers could also be tried. Please discuss with your doctor. Richard Thomas, MD
