The first question I would ask is: Are you sure it is fungus? Assuming it is, the most common cause of red dry scaling is seborrheic dermatitis which is caused by a yeast -- the same yeast that causes dandruff.
I would try using an anti-dandruff shampoo such as Head & Shoulders or Nizoral on the scalp, then allowing it to wash over the face for a few seconds.
