Keeping white denim looking clean and crisp can be daunting but you don't have to live in fear of spills and stains. Follow these laundering tips and calm your white jean woes.
1. Hang dry
Excessive drying time and a high temperature setting on your machine dryer can make your jeans shrink. Instead, hang dry your denim to maintain its shape.
2. Lie flat
If hang-drying your jeans is not an option, lie them flat on a table with a clean towel placed underneath to prevent dirtying them once again.
3. Iron
Hang drying your denim can leave them quite stiff, but giving them a quick pressing with an iron will soften them right up. Just be sure to monitor your iron's temperature and steam settings to avoid burning the fabric.
4. Treat stains immediately
Don't wait until you get home to treat a stain on your jeans. Immediately apply an on-the-go product like Clorox's Bleach Pen Gel ($5).
The stain should shrink in size and lighten in colour instantly, and it'll be much easier to remove in your wash cycle later.
5. Use warm water
White denim should be washed in warm water to help remove germs and dirt. However, be careful not to go too hot, as high temperatures can cause shrinkage.
6. Use bleach sparingly
While bleach can brighten white denim, its harsh chemicals can actually break down fibers and leave your jeans with a yellow stain.
