2015 Academy Awards outfit predictions

Reese Witherspoon

Always classy, never trashy, Reese Witherspoon is the epitome of old-Hollywood fashion sense. This strapless sheath dress from the Armani Privé Spring 2015 collection would bring out Witherspoon's blue eyes, while the embroidery would add extra glamour to the film world's biggest celebration. Witherspoon is nominated for Actress in a Leading Role for memoir-turned-movie Wild.

Felicity Jones

Felicity Jones is feminine yet modern, and she's not afraid to wear extravagant clothing. We think she might choose a frock similar to this Elie Saab Haute Couture gown for Spring 2015 with full skirt and muted colour palette. It would look fabulous with her dark hair and a berry lip. Jones is nominated for Actress in a Leading Role for her performance as Stephen Hawking's wife in The Theory of Everything.

Julianne Moore

We love when Julianne Moore chooses structured gowns with a hit of drama. This Lanvin dress with an oversize ruffle could be the perfect style for Moore's predicted walk to the stage. The favourite to win Actress in a Leading Role, Moore is up for the statue for her turn as a college professor diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's in Still Alice. Patricia Arquette

Patricia Arquette favours one-shoulder gowns, and this red number with side draping by Escada would be a flattering choice for the Oscar nominee. Arquette's nomination for Actress in a Supporting Role honours her performance in Boyhood, a movie that was filmed, on and off, over 12 years. Escada one-shoulder side-draped column gown, $3,066, shop.nordstrom.com.

Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley looks to two main design houses when choosing red-carpet ensembles: Chanel and Valentino. This ornate gown from Valentino Haute Couture for Spring 2015 has a high-enough waistline to fit Knightley's pregnant belly and enough embroidery and elegance to satisfy her old-world tastes. Knightley is nominated for Actress in a Supporting Role for The Imitation Game.

2015 Academy Awards outfit predictions

Meryl Streep

The most seasoned actor on our list, Meryl Streep brings a certain gravitas to every outfit she picks for the red carpet. She almost always chooses long sleeves and full skirts, but we'd love to see her in an impeccable white suit from the Spring 2015 Schiaparelli Haute Couture collection. With that suiting and a pair of sky-high heels, Streep would rule the red carpet. Meryl Streep's nod is for Actress in a Supporting Role for the musical Into The Woods. It's her 19th Academy Award nomination. Click here for our list of 7 films that are worth watching this year—none of them Oscar nominees!

2015 Academy Awards outfit predictions

Rosamund Pike

Rosamund Pike is known for taking fashion risks on the red carpet. We wouldn't be surprised if she chooses a loosely draped gown with interesting details, such as the blue Chloé dress featured here. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it sure stands out. Pike is nominated for Actress in a Leading Role for her much-acclaimed performance in Gone Girl. Chloé crystal-strap evening gown, $4,375, farfetch.com.

2015 Academy Awards outfit predictions

Laura Dern

Laura Dern often wears her hair in beachy waves and opts for polished V-neck gowns. We hope she veers a little out of her comfort zone and tries a bohemian frock with an intricate print. Dern is nominated for Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Reese Witherspoon's deceased mother in Wild. Etro embellished printed silk-crepe gown, $5,730, net-a-porter.com.

Emma Stone

Without fail, Emma Stone makes it onto the best-dressed list of every awards show she attends. For the Oscars this year, we hope she shows off her delicate shoulders while rocking a flow-y silhouette. We also hope she wears green. Because she's a redhead. Enough said. Stone is nominated for Actress in a Supporting Role for Birdman. Check out our favourite Emma Stone looks. Alexander McQueen draped strapless silk chiffon long dress, $3,690, luisaviaroma.com.

Marion Cotillard

Marion Cotillard loves Dior and wears it every chance she gets. We're fairly certain she'll choose a gown from Dior's Spring 2015 Haute Couture collection. This full-skirted black-and-powder-blue design might be just the thing. Cotillard is nominated for Actress in a Leading Role for Two Days, One Night.
