If you know the ins and outs of how to dress your silhouette, you're going to look polished and put-together, and feel more confident in the way you dress. Did you know a smartly tailored blazer can easily make you look 10 pounds thinner? (Now who doesn't love that?!)
Toronto-based stylist George Antonopoulos, who recently collaborated on a signature line of modern leather style staples called Object with Danier Leather, briefed us on fall trends and how to work them for your body type.
1. Styling tips if you're petite
• Clothes
Antonopoulos recommends shorter hemlines for petite women this fall. "I suggest not wearing anything too long. Form-fitting dresses and skirts that hit above the knee always work well on petite frames," he says. High-waisted pants are also an excellent trend for petite women, as longer rises can optically add inches to small frames.
• Accessories
Antonopoulos also suggests that petite women wear earrings or collar necklaces. "They bring the eye up," he says. As for what not to wear, he recommends keeping arms relatively bracelet-free: "I would avoid wearing heavy bangles as they can make you look smaller."
• Footwear
Try a wedge or a platform pump for added height and leg length. If you're not comfortable in high heels, a kitten heel is hot for fall and also an easy way to get a slight lift.
2. Styling tips if you're long and lean
• Clothes
A fresh trend for tall and thin body types is the maxi (nearly floor-length) skirt or dress. Accentuate your long and lean frame by wearing lengthy, flowing pieces. "I love a great maxi skirt for fall," says Antonopoulos. This trend is versatile and works just as well with a classic T-shirt to keep things casual, or a bold piece of jewelry to spruce things up.
