5 songs you shouldn’t play at your wedding

Wedding_Dance Today, we’re turning things over to our intern, Radina Vencheva: There’s nothing wrong with playing the biggest and best hits in order to please different guests, but some songs are better left off of your wedding playlist all together. After all, it’s your big day and you and your partner are in charge of which tunes you'd like to hear. From Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe to catchy hits by One Direction, we bring you a list of songs to stay away from as you plan for your big day. You can save these for the club scene …or to jam with your 12-year-old sister or brother. 1. Don’t play: Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen.  Yes, the song went viral and yes, it seems like a good idea to play it to get everyone in the mood to groove, but it’s definitely not wedding appropriate. A song should be able to tell something about the bride and the groom and you wouldn’t want your guests to think you two just met randomly somewhere (and this is craaaaazy) …unless that is, in fact, the case. Do play: If you are going for the cheesy songs, try A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton. Though, perhaps equally annoying, at least it has more more meaningful lyrics. 2. Don’t play: Anything LMFAO-related. Ever since LMFAO hit the airwaves, we’ve all been losing brain cells a little at a time. Unless you want a totally crazy party scene on your wedding, don’t play this uncle-nephew duo (no one can tell who’s who, anyway). Do play: I Gotta Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas or the good old Macarena by Los Del Rio. These two total hits are guaranteed to get your guests dancing without encouraging them to get too drunk or crazy. And if you go with Los Del Rio, you're bridging the generation gaps, as well, because it's timeless! 3. Don’t play: What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction. While this song is good for a Sweet Sixteen celebration or even a birthday party, its first-grade lyrics would make everyone feel awkward and probably even a little irritated too; especially after hearing it again for the 100th time. Not to mention, you don’t want to offend the bride or groom by singing, “Everyone else in the room can see it [being beautiful], everyone else but you,” since clearly it's their day and obviously they’ve put the effort into looking beautiful. Do play: If you are going for boy band themed playlist, anything from the Backstreet Boys would work perfectly. To step it up a notch and keep it classy, play Queen’s legendary I Was Born To Love You. 4. Don’t play: Marry You by Bruno Mars. Even though it's catchy and, at first glance, seems perfect for your big day, consider the lyrics. This tune is more of a ‘let’s-get-drunk-and-marry-in-Las-Vegas’ kind of song. While new couples may find the song cute and spontaneous, you want the celebration of your union to focus a bit more on the ...long term. Do play: Marry The Night by Lady Gaga or Diamonds by Rihanna. 5. Don’t play: What Does the Fox Say? by Ylvis. I hope this goes without saying. Do I even have to begin explaining what’s wrong with this song, because it’s everything. While it might have been fun when you heard it with your friends for the first time, you can't deny it's now annoying. Just think of all those Vine videos and Facebook clips you've seen, of strangers doing the bizzare dance moves from the video.  “Ning ning ning ning ning ning ning..." Just don't do it. Do play: Any song but this one. I'm kidding. If you really want to get the crowd going, play Psy’s Gangnam Style or if you want that one song that will make everyone jump out of their seats, just do the Harlem Shake by Baauer.
