Not to downplay the skin softening powers of moisturizer or the transformative abilities of serum but these skin care aids can't make you look five years younger moments after application. The secret to looking refreshed in a flash can be found in your makeup bag. Here, makeup artists share their top strategies for bestowing complexions with a fresh youthful glow. foundationandconcealer Rethink your foundation and concealer Heavy foundation and too much concealer is a one-way ticket to looking a lot older than you are. "Don't use concealer on the outer corners of your eyes," says Rimmel London makeup artist Vanessa Jarman. "It will settle into fine lines and enhance crow's feet." When it comes to choosing a foundation stay away from pressed powders, they cling to wrinkles and make skin look older. Instead, pick a sheer formula (try a BB, CC or tinted moisturizer) that can be layered for more coverage if necessary. "You don't want to overly makeup mature skin, you really need the skin to shine through." Jarman suggest using a rich moisturizer before applying makeup. If you have time (more than five minutes) a quickie mask can do wonders, drenching skin with hydration that will last all day. If your skin is having a hard time obtaining—and retaining—a stubble sheen try turning to a light-reflective cream or liquid formula to create the illusion of a glowing complexion. " Apply a highlight to your cheeks, brow bones and the bridge of the nose," says editorial makeup artist Jodi Urichuk. Nars Illuminator in Orgasm, $36, narscosmetics.com. makeup Open up your eyes Ease up on dark eyeshadow and  forget about matte finishes. Instead, turn to a creamy champagne toned shimmery eyeshadow. "Don't sweep it across the entire lid, only apply the shadow sparingly on the corners as a highlight," says Toronto based makeup artist Jukka. This teamed up with using a lash curler (to help eyes appear more open), black mascara (to help the whites of your eyes look brighter) and eyebrow powder (to fill in arches and spares eyebrows) can take years off your face.
