Bicycle makeover: Decorate your bike for Canada Day

Start with:
Boy's Supercycle 20-inch BMX Bike, $150, canadiantire.ca.

Handlebars:
Handlebar streamers lend retro charm to this bike. Staple lengths of crêpe paper and ribbon to red card stock that you have cut to fit around your handlebars. Strips of white card stock cover the staples; maple leaves add a finishing touch.

Shield:
Declare your patriotic pride on a shield made of card stock. Precut scrapbooking letters make it easy to spell out your message; a pipe cleaner and a bit of invisible tape hold everything in place.

Frame:
Wrap the bike's frame in bristol board; tape in place. Decorate with cut-and-paste maple leaves or other Canadian motifs to add some pizzazz.
