Get a full-body shape-up with these 3 dumbbell moves

In case you swore off all forms of exercise until January, Nike master trainer Eva Redpath took three of our favourite full-body moves up a notch with the addition of dumbbells to kick-start a fabulously fit new year.

By mixing intense bursts of activity with short periods of rest in between, you can get a great workout in 20 minutes or less.

1. Tabletop row

Start Here: Begin in a tabletop position with your hands under your shoulders and your knees under your hips with your toes tucked under. Position a dumbbell next to your right hand.

1. Bracing your abdominals, lift your knees a few inches off the floor.

2. Pick up the dumbbell with your right hand and bring it to your rib cage, retracting your right shoulder blade at the top of the move. Lower the dumbbell back down. Complete the reps with your right arm before switching to your left arm.

2. Squat thruster

Start Here: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and a dumbbell in each hand. Position the weights at your shoulders with your elbows bent and palms facing inward.

1. Squat until your thighs are parallel to the floor.

2. Stand up, extending your arms over your head. Return to the starting position. Repeat.

3. Reverse lunge with hammer curl

Start Here: Stand with your feet hip-width apart and your arms by your sides, holding a dumbbell in each hand.

1. Step your left leg behind you, bending your knees and lowering into a reverse lunge.

2. Return to the starting position, then bend your elbows until the dumbbells are at shoulder level.

3. Lower the dumbbells back down to the starting position. Complete the reps with your left leg before switching to your right leg.
