I was inspired to make this when I had bits of favourite cheeses and no bread - only pitas - left over. Note: you can substitute sour cream for salsa.
Want something special to celebrate our country's birthday? Make Canada's best sandwich to put in your picnic hamper on any July 1. Simply hollow out a loaf of your favorite bread — we used round crusty loaf — and fill it with a truly delicious filling. The loaf can be transported to the picnic site in a cooler, then cut in wedges and served from a napkin lined basket.
Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner, this easy and inexpensive dish is a family favorite.
This is a truly stick to your ribs lunch or dinner. Of course it is always better the second day. Enjoy
I often serve this with homemade corn bread. The recipe was my mother's. My father had been in Canada from Scotland a short time before they met. She wished to cook him an impressive meal, but only had a hot plate in her flat. This was the best she could do in one pot. He had never had the dish before and had three helpings. They married five weeks after meeting, and the family joke was always that the chili was the clincher.
